HOW TO CHECK YOUR METER FOR LEAKS
1. If your meter pit is full of water, dip the water out of the pit so the entire meter is out of the water. If the water is coming out of the bottom of your meter, immediately call SMWA.
2. Shut all water off inside or your home.
3. Check the meter. If the leak detector is turning, you have a leak in service line between home and meter.
*To check toilets for leaks, put a small amount of food coloring in the tank and do NOT flush. If the bowl water changes color in a few minutes, you have a leaking toilet. Leaking toilets are very often the cause of high water usage.

LOW WATER PRESSURE
Low water pressure can indicate a break in your water service line has occurred, a plumbing leak exists inside the home, or the pressure regulator is in need of replacement. Installation and maintenance of pressure-reducing valves are the responsibility of the customer. They may be purchased at hardware stores.
